OPERATING PRINCIPLES
Built around the record counsel may need to defend.
What distinguishes Juvor.ai are the principles that govern how the service behaves, what it refuses, accepts and records, and the technology it uses to protect privilege while using AI in the provision of legal services.
01
Counsel directed engagement
A named in-house or firm attorney sets scope, approves guidance, reviews escalations, and stands behind the legal service relationship. Juvor.ai is retained by that attorney's company or firm and reports to that attorney.
02
Written Kovel retention
Juvor.ai is retained in writing under a Kovel engagement letter that is signed and versioned. The letter names the client matters, the supervising attorney, and the scope of the technical agency.
03
Purpose classification before response
Every request is classified as routine legal, novel or sensitive, mixed purpose, personal interest, or outside scope. Classification runs before any model call. The classification is written to the matter record.
04
Approved playbook answers only
Routine legal answers come from material that counsel has previously approved. New questions do not produce new answers on the fly. They produce escalations that provide for attorney control prior to response.
05
Refusal is a feature
The service refuses business decisions, personal questions, and requests outside approved scope. Refusals are logged with the same discipline as approvals. Counsel sees the refusal queue.
06
Matter atomicity
Each interaction is scoped to a matter. Information from one matter does not enter another matter’s context. Ethical walls set by counsel are enforced by the routing layer, not by convention.
07 — Confidential inference routing
Requests that require the highest confidentiality run in a confidential, Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) where the inference layer cannot read the content. The environment produces a cryptographic attestation for every inference call.
08 — Zero retention at the inference layer
The inference layer is designed to retain no prompts, no outputs, and no training signal from client content. The application layer keeps the counsel controlled matter record separately.
09 — Counsel controlled retention and hold
Retention rules and legal hold status live in the matter record and are set by the supervising attorney. Retention decisions belong to counsel, not to the software vendor.
The principles support the elements that a privilege claim may depend on, and juvor.ai's design adjusts according to the law.
Privilege and work product are legal determinations that a court makes on the specific facts of a specific communication. A software product cannot manufacture a privilege that the facts do not support. What a well designed service can do is preserve the elements that a court examines, including a documented attorney relationship, a stated legal purpose, confidentiality safeguards, and attorney direction. The nine principles above are the operating discipline that keeps those elements intact through every interaction.
NEXT STEPS
People generally start with a two week engagement mapping session. Counsel of record reviews the classification playbook against the recurring legal questions, drafts the Kovel engagement letter, and defines the matter structure. Deployment follows once the paperwork is signed.
